Fidelity bonds, 1845-1931.

According to canal regulations certain employees and officers had to file fidelity bonds as a condition for employment. Each bond includes employee name; position held; bonding date; bond amount; bond submitting employee signature; bonding company officers; notary public witnessing the bond execution signature and attestation; and bonding firm name and address. Bonds are included for the following employees: toll collectors (1848-1918); trustees (1845-1859); treasurers (1845-1873); secretary (1858); clerks (1849-1913); locktenders (1848 -1931); superintendents (1849-1897); inspectors and forement (1868-1908).
